Getting your oven professionally cleaned is one of the most effective ways to restore a kitchen appliance that has accumulated months or years of baked-on grease and carbon. Here is exactly what you need to know before your appointment with Zap Cleaning in Cambridge.
Before Your Oven Cleaning Appointment
1. Make sure the oven is cool
Do not use the oven on the morning of your appointment. The oven must be completely cool before our specialist can begin. A hot oven is unsafe to work on and makes the products significantly less effective.
2. Remove items from around the oven
Clear the hob and the area immediately around the oven. Our technicians will need space to work and access all sides of the appliance. This is especially important for range cookers.
3. Remove any personal items from the oven
If you keep baking trays, oven dishes or other items inside the oven, please remove them beforehand. Our technicians will clean all removable parts — racks, trays and door glass — but need access to the oven cavity to begin.
4. Ensure clear access
For built-in ovens, ensure there is clear access from the front. For range cookers, please ensure access from all sides where possible.
What to Expect on the Day
Our dip-tank process
Zap Cleaning uses a specialist dip-tank system for all oven cleans. All removable parts — racks, trays, side runners and door glass panels — are removed and placed in a heated dip tank containing a professional-grade caustic solution. This dissolves baked-on grease and carbon without the need for abrasive scrubbing.
While the removable parts are soaking, our technician works on the oven cavity, door, hob and any other elements of the appliance using specialist cleaning products appropriate to the surfaces.
Timings
Most single ovens take around 1–1.5 hours. Double ovens and range cookers typically take 2–3 hours depending on condition. We will give you an estimated duration when you book.
Smell and fumes
Professional oven cleaning products have an odour when applied — this is normal and expected. Ensure the kitchen is well ventilated during and after the clean. The smell will dissipate within a few hours.
After the clean
Once complete, your oven will be fully reassembled and ready to use. We recommend ventilating the kitchen and running the oven at a moderate temperature for 15–20 minutes on the first use — this is normal practice after a deep clean.
